J.H. Keeso & Sons Ltd. is looking for dedicated landowners who are committed to sustainable management of their forests.
Forest management can be complex. Our goal is to help you improve your forest through a process that is clear and easy to understand as well as providing you with a pleasant experience. The most common tool in managing forestland is harvesting timber. Our forester starts by inspecting your forest and discussing your goals and objectives.
A well planned harvest will create room for new growth, sustain wildlife habitat, maintain a green environment, and minimize greenhouse emissions; while at the same time increasing the health and vigour of your forest. This increases the rate that carbon sequestering is fixed in your forest.
Harvesting by J.H. Keeso & Sons Ltd. is designed to emulate the natural cycle of the forest. The harvest removes diseased, defective, crowded and, over mature trees creating room for new trees to become established and grow. This cycle can be repeated every 10 to 12 years.
To ensure you receive maximum value for your forest products, every tree that is to be harvested is marked, measured, and volumes recorded. The timber is purchased under contract with the number of trees by species identified. You are paid based on the volume estimate for your timber before cutting starts. Your timber is harvested by our professional logging crews trained to minimize the adverse effects of harvesting and heavy equipment.
Once the logs have been taken to the mill they are scaled. If the scaled volume is higher than the estimate, you will receive payment for the difference. The veneer quality logs are sorted at the mill and sold to veneer buyers. You, the land owner, are paid for the veneer minus the cutting and handling costs. J.H. Keeso & Sons Ltd. is committed to maintaining high-quality forestland through recognized forestry practices aimed at sustaining the ENTIRE FOREST and its ecosystems.
In short, we treat your forest as if it was our own.
